Titles for My Opening Sequence

I have finished all of the titles I want to use in my opening sequence, using Photoshop.

The first title is for the major production company producing and distributing my film, Warner Brothers. I have noticed that the production companies are the first titles that appear after the moving idents, so this will come at the beginning of my opening sequence.

It is common for films to be co-produced, so I have included a second production company title, which will appear on screen after the Warner Brothers title. Open Road Productions have made a number of crime films and films which could be loosely classed as film noir, or neo-noir.

I also noticed during my research that it was typical for there to be a title featuring the name of the director. This will probably be the next title which appears. I have chosen Rian Johnson as the director of 'The Receptionist' as he has frequently worked on films that have been categorised as film noir, or films that share some conventions with the genre, such as 'Brick' and 'Knives Out'.

Commonly the names of the producers will also feature in the opening titles. All of the producers I have included have worked within my chosen genre.

One other common convention I noticed was that the names of the main actors appear in the opening titles. Stars are a major selling point of films to the audience, so I wanted to include them here. All of my actors are fictional and I will probably create moving titles for their appearance using Adobe After Effects, as I feel that this techniques is common in films from the film noir genre. I'm not quite sure yet where they will appear in the sequence but it is likely to be towards the end, before the name of the film.

Perhaps the most noticeable convention is the appearance of the name of the film, right at the end of the sequence. Again, I may incorporate this as a moving title.

Finally, I want to use another title which will signify to the audience that what follows is a flashback of events that have led to Liz being on Death Row - something I have hinted at in my opening sequence to create enigma for the spectator. I'm not quite sure whether this will come right at the end of the scene, after the name of the film. More likely, it will come just before as I have filmed shots of Liz earlier in the narrative, turning up for a job interview at the same firm her daughter used to work at before she committed suicide.
