Evaluation Questions - Introduction

For my evaluations I have decided to present the answers to the questions as a director's commentary and a podcast.

The first evaluation question which considers how my opening sequence for 'The Receptionist' uses or challenges conventions and how I represent issues and/or social groups, will be presented as a director's commentary. Firstly, I re-watched my opening scene and made notes about two types of conventions; general conventions of opening sequences and conventions of genre. The conventions of opening sequences included idents, titles, the introduction of characters and creating enigma.

The conventions of genre meant that I looked at aspects of the film noir genre that I had incorporated into my scene. I turned this into a script and recorded it in separate paragraphs on my phone using voice memo. I then edited out any pauses and gapes using Adobe Audition, before adding the edited file to the audio timeline on Adobe Premiere Pro so that you can hear my commentary while the opening sequence plays.

I decided to answer questions 2, 3 and 4 as a fictional podcast for a film noir show. Again, I rewatched the scene and made notes and created three scripts, one for each question. The questions discussed how I had made decisions to engage my audience, how 'The Receptionist' would be distributed it it was a real film, and questions about my production skills and the use of technologies throughout the project.

Each answer responds to a question asked by the host of the podcast. I have also included an introduction to the podcast by the host, and a segue to the next section at the end of the podcast to make it feel as authentic as possible.
